Pro Tint and Apparel recently hosted a two-day architectural window film training course at its facility in Hartwell, Ga. The course covered the ins and outs of solar control film (day one), and security film (day two).
Training Together
The following window film industry professionals attended and completed the training: Luis Angel Martinez, Owner of Resilient Tint in Marietta, Ga.; Robert Marsh of a Window Genie franchise in Tennessee; Brian Dyer, Installer at Pro Tint and Apparel; and Russell Hall, Installer at Pro Tint and Apparel.
The event was sponsored by The Tint School USA; Tinta Tools; and TBL Distributors LLC.
Day One
“We have residential windows for training at our shop,” says Kyle Whalen, Co-Owner of Pro Tint and Apparel and host of the training. “We went over what types of films work for certain types of glass, and what doesn’t work. We covered cleaning techniques, cutting methods, and, of course, how to install the film. The class was very hands-on. Within the first 20 minutes, trainees had film in their hands.”

Day Two
“On day two, we transitioned into safety and security film,” Whalen shares. “We talked about the different slip solutions that we use at our shop. We trained on commercial windows that you would see at everyday businesses. Once we covered cutting and installing security film, we moved into the attachment process. We used DOWSIL™ 995 Silicone Structural Sealant.”

Security Film Misconceptions
School security is a major focus for lawmakers, educators, parents, and the general public in 2024. On day two, Whalen discussed misconceptions surrounding security film and its overall role in school safety.
“There’s a lot of companies selling security film as ‘bulletproof’ film,” Whalen says. “I emphasized the fact that these films are not bulletproof. It’s more of a deterrent film. It helps slow down potential intruders. We touched on this topic heavily so they are knowledgeable of the products and their capabilities.”
Passing on the Torch
A Tinter Battles 2023 World Champion, Whalen is well known throughout the industry. For him, the best part of his journey is giving back.
“Training others is very rewarding,” shares Whalen, who placed third in Autobahn’s Inaugural Window Tinting Competition and second in the company’s Inaugural PPF Competition on March 6, 2024. “There are some who don’t want to show you how they do things everyday. Without training and mentorship, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
